Three-year partnership with The Jed Foundation and AASA will help the district evaluate existing supports and develop a strategic plan for student well-being

Mendham Borough, NJ – Mendham Borough School District has partnered with The Jed Foundation (JED) and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, to participate in the JED and AASA District Mental Health Initiative, a three-year program focused on strengthening the systems and supports that promote student mental health and well-being.

Through the initiative, the district will work with experts to evaluate its existing mental health programs, resources, and practices; identify strengths and opportunities for growth; and develop a customized, data-informed strategic plan to guide the district’s ongoing efforts.

“Supporting the whole child means recognizing that emotional well-being is an important part of a student’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Dr. Mitzi Morillo, Superintendent of Schools. “This partnership gives us an opportunity to take a comprehensive look at the supports we currently provide, learn from experts, and develop a strategic plan that will help guide our work moving forward.”

As part of the initiative, Mendham Borough will participate in a comprehensive assessment process that incorporates input from district leaders, administrators, and staff. The district will then work with JED and AASA to develop a strategic action plan focused on strengthening its mental health systems and creating sustainable supports for students and staff.

District leaders will also participate in professional learning and collaborate with other school districts in the initiative, gaining access to expert guidance, technical assistance, and resources.

“This work builds on our ongoing commitment to creating safe, supportive, and engaging learning environments for every student,” Morillo said. “We look forward to using this process to build on our strengths and identify meaningful opportunities to continue supporting the well-being of our entire school community.”
