Construction is in full swing across the Mendham Borough School District this summer as work continues on voter-approved improvements made possible through the district's 2025 bond referendum.
The most visible project is the construction of the new Performing Arts Center addition. Since breaking ground earlier this year, crews have made significant progress on the facility, which will provide students with a dedicated space for performances, music education, public speaking, and other creative learning opportunities. The addition will feature a state-of-the-art stage, professional lighting and sound systems, and a flexible classroom designed to expand arts programming for current and future students.
"Each phase of construction brings us one step closer to providing our students with learning spaces that reflect the excellence of our educational programs," said Superintendent Dr. Mitzi Morillo. "We are grateful for our community's continued support and patience as these important projects take shape. The improvements underway today will benefit Mendham Borough students for decades to come."
In addition to the Performing Arts Center, several other referendum-funded projects are taking place this summer while school is out of session. At Mountain View Middle School, construction is underway on a new sixth-grade science lab designed to support hands-on STEM learning, along with a roof replacement project that will enhance the building's integrity and efficiency. At Hilltop School, the library media center is being transformed into a modern, flexible learning environment that will better support student learning.
In addition to the referendum-funded improvements, the district was recently awarded a $63,700 Local Recreation Improvement Grant through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) to enhance outdoor learning and play opportunities at Hilltop School and for the entire community. The grant will fund the installation of a music-themed inclusive playground designed to provide an engaging and accessible space where children of all abilities can play together.
