The Department of Special Services is pleased to share an update on our county-wide parent workshop series. Wednesday night marked the first of nine interactive workshops hosted by the Special Education Parent Advisory Group, where we were fortunate to have the Chief Technology Officer from Pequannock Township present on digital tools that foster student independence and support diverse learners, including speech-to-text apps and adaptive hardware. Yesterday, Danielle Holmes and Brooke Fargnoli hosted a parent workshop to welcome new families to special services, covering topics that ranged from special education terminology and support systems within the Mendham Borough School District to communication protocols and transparency surrounding various reporting systems. Our next virtual session will take place on November 19th from 12:00 - 1:00 PM via Google Meet, focusing on behavior management with young children through proactive strategies that encourage positive behavior in early learners using praise-based techniques and visual supports.
