Mountain View’s 5th graders recently finished a month-long project: The Species on the Edge Art and Essay Contest, 2019.  Sponsored by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, this contest seeks to raise awareness of New Jersey’s diverse wildlife populations and the many threats which they face from an ever-expanding society.  Students chose New Jersey animals which were either endangered, threatened, or “a species of concern.” After choosing their animals, students did research about their chosen species in Math and Science classes. In Language Arts, they brought this knowledge to an essay, where the goal was to let the public know a little about the animal, and also, to petition New Jerseyans to help conserve the animal’s environment.

An added enticement to our students is always the artistic portion, where each student creates an aesthetic poster depicting his/her chosen species.  As you can see, our students are a talented group, and just love New Jersey wildlife!

We are proud of our 5th graders, who each did a great job with the Species on the Edge Art and Essay Contest! Results are usually announced in late spring; wish us luck!
