Cameras, iPods, radios, laser pointers, and all electronic games are discouraged from being brought to school by students at any time. If such items are found being used they will be confiscated and returned directly to a parent/guardian by the administration. Students and parents understand that such items are brought to school at the student’s own risk, and the school will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
There has been interest raised for students to have the opportunity to utilize E-Readers/Tablets at Mountain View:
- Students who would like to utilize devices such as a Kindle, Nook, iPad, or Surface to read novels and school appropriate materials will be permitted to use them in the appropriate classes. These devices are being permitted to enhance the educational experience at the classroom teacher's discretion and will not be allowed to be utilized for any other purpose (i.e. gaming, etc.). Students doing so will be subject to the school's code of conduct including confiscation only to be returned to a parent/guardian.
- Furthermore, students will not be permitted access to the school's wireless network for any reason, including use of a personal electronic device. Devices that are 3/4G enabled, meaning they are able to access the internet by their own means, are not permitted and either should not be brought to school or should be kept in "airplane mode".
- Student's personal electronic devices are subject to the Mountain View Acceptable Use Policy while on school grounds. Devices such as a Kindle, Nook, iPad, or Surface are not essential or necessary for use in classes. The District and Mountain View will not accept responsibility for the loss, damage, or theft to a personal device that is brought to school. This does not alter the school's procedure on cell phones. If they are brought to school they are to be off and in lockers for the entirety of the school day.
