About Mrs. Lanka
I attended Penn State University and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where I earned my Masters degree in clinical Social Work. After working with children and families in therapeutic foster care, residential treatment, and outpatient counseling settings, I found that working in a school was the place for me. As a school counselor, I found a unique opportunity to help kids in a very meaningful way. I love working with children and their families, and enjoy the sense of collaboration and teamwork that working in a school provides. Please contact me if I can be of assistance to you or your child this year.
I am excited to be a part of the Mendham Borough Schools family as your school counselor. I look forward to getting to know you!
Overview of Second Step Program
Second Step is a curriculum utilized by Mrs. Lanka at Mt. View and Dr. Fisher at Hilltop that helps students develop important social and emotional skills. In grades K–5, students practice skills such as making friends, managing emotions and solving problems to set them on the path for social success and academic readiness. In grades 6-8, Second Step helps middle-schoolers be better prepared to navigate adolescence. Lessons on communication, coping, and decision-making skills help them make good choices and avoid pitfalls, such as peer pressure, substance abuse, and bullying.
